History> The Ascendants > Fidel Fidel The Blind Oracle, The Scribe, The Dreamweaver With my eye, I
see the grace of creation. Fidel is one of the most beautifully tragic figures of all the Ascendants. She is remembered for her innocence, her grace, and her frighteningly powerful abilities as a Clairvoyant psion. The youngest of all the Ascendants, Fidel herself was a member of what would later become the Atalyan clan, but she, along with a select group of individuals from the other K'Tri bloodlines, was chosen to become scholars instead of warriors. They would become the scribes of K'Tri history, documenting the entirety of the War of Subjugation with exacting detail. Her colleagues became legendary for their bravery in journeying to the front lines of the conflict, armed with little more than quill and parchment. Fidel herself never saw battle as she was forbidden to approach the front, due to her young age as well as reasons that would become clear only after she was selected for Ascension. Instead, her role was to compile all the reports that each of her colleagues returned with, and because of such, Fidel became the most well informed K'Tri on the events of the war. After the conflict, Fidel's associates dispersed amongst the clans, to act as teachers for the upcoming generation. Fidel however was barely older than those she would be teaching, and so decided to travel and see what other wonders Clydira held. She was taken in by a group of Whistlers and traversed the breadth of the earth with them, documenting not only the journey, but the cultures she met as well as the stories they shared. Eventually, Fidel returned to the K'Tri territory, and shortly after was chosen for Ascension. The gods granted her the power of true clairvoyance, something which would end up becoming both a blessing and a curse. Fidel saw not only all possible outcomes of all situations, but, through the trancelike state her visions would put her in, had the ability to interact with the scenarios. More and more, Fidel became overwhelmed by the Sight, with months and longer spent in her trances. Her clairvoyance led to her being unable to know what time she was living in, and the simple act of looking upon someone was known to flood her with visions of that person's future. Many of the Ascendants grew protective of Fidel, and took turns guarding her when she was left vulnerable due to her visions, as because of the certainty of Fidel's prophecies, she was an invaluable asset to those hungry for power. Masombra and Celos, knowing that a more proactive approach would be necessary to protect her, brought Fidel to the northern lake region of Eluthera. There, on island in the center of Lake Sayphia, Celos summoned from the earth itself a massive walled structure. The Ascendants hand selected individuals from all of the K'Tri clans to stand as guards for Fidel, as well as to record the futures she foretold. The clan grew in size quickly, and began to worship Fidel as a god-figure, the very voice of Amunet. This was detrimental to Fidel's well-being, as all that was needed for Fidel to slip into a trance was to glimpse at an individual and become overwhelmed by their future. Having seen her own path, Fidel knew of the impending madness that her abilities would bestow upon her, and so did the unthinkable: she carved out her eyes. Shortly after,
Fidel disappeared from the Temple that had grown around her, and was
replaced by the figure that would be known as The Childe. The youngest
Ascendant would never be seen again, but the recordings of her prophecies
are kept and worshipped to this day as the legendary Book of Fidel. |
